Can a Spirit Haunt You? A Psychic Medium Answers Your Biggest Questions
Can a spirit haunt you? Can a ghost attach itself to you? What do spirits actually look like, and should you be afraid of them?
I have been communicating with spirits since childhood, and these are some of the questions I'm asked most often. Fear has shaped so much of what people believe about the spirit world, so I want to answer them as directly as I can.
Ghosts and spirits are not the same thing
A ghost and a crossed spirit do not appear the same way to me.
A soul that hasn't crossed over, what most people would call a ghost, usually appears in roughly the form it had shortly before death. I see it as translucent and closer to the ground, almost as though it is still walking. The energy around it can feel heavy, unsettled, or unresolved.
A spirit that has crossed into the light feels completely different. Crossed spirits appear on my right side. Sometimes they show me their whole body and sometimes only part of themselves, as though they are stepping through an opening. They may also show me scenes from their life or from where they are now.
They are not limited to the age or physical condition they had when they died. A person who died at 95 may appear to me at 30. Spirits often present themselves as they remember feeling happiest, strongest, or most themselves. They can adjust what they show until I, or the person receiving the reading, recognizes them.
Are you in pain in the afterlife?
No. The pain of the body does not follow you.
Someone who died after illness, injury, or a long period of suffering does not remain trapped in that condition. When they come through, they often show themselves as healthy and whole, not as they looked in a hospital bed, but as the version of themselves in which they felt most alive.
This is one of the things I most want grieving people to understand. The way someone died is not the way they remain.
Can a ghost actually haunt you?
Technically, a ghost can remain close to a person or place, but this is much less common, and usually much less dramatic, than films and television suggest.
Most souls cross over. Some stay nearby for a short time after death. They may want to see the people they love, attend their funeral, or understand what is happening around them. Then they leave.
The souls that remain earthbound are often held by fear, confusion, attachment, or unfinished business.
An earthbound soul has limited energy. To remain active, it may draw on the emotional reactions of living people. Attention, fear, and repeated engagement can strengthen that connection. This is one reason certain historic places can feel very active: people arrive expecting an experience and bring a great deal of emotion with them.
Can a ghost make you feel tired, uncomfortable, or emotionally off? Yes. But that doesn't mean it has unlimited power over you.
The best response is not to feed the connection. Don't provoke it, don't build a relationship with it, and don't give fear more authority than it deserves.
Do we have enemies waiting in the afterlife?
No.
When a soul crosses, it goes through a life review and a healing process. It sees its life with a much broader understanding than we have while we are living it. The resentments, rivalries, and conflicts that felt so important on earth do not continue in the same form.
Someone who hurt you isn't waiting to resume the argument. The afterlife is not a place where people continue collecting grievances or settling scores.
That does not erase what happened in life. It means the soul understands it differently once it is no longer limited by the human personality and its wounds.
Can a ghost curse you?
No.
People tell me in my messages that they have cursed me fairly regularly. One person told me I would turn into concrete. Still here.
A curse has power mainly when fear gives it power. When you become convinced that something bad has been placed upon you, your own mind begins looking for proof. Ordinary difficulties can start to feel like confirmation.
A ghost does not have endless energy, and it is not waiting to invent elaborate punishments for the living. Most earthbound souls have difficulty producing even small physical effects.
You don't need to accept someone else's fear, anger, or intention as your own.
The bigger picture
The spirit world is not something I believe we need to live in fear of.
Souls that have crossed are not watching in order to punish you. They are not keeping a list of your mistakes or waiting to settle old conflicts. They are continuing their own journey of understanding, healing, and growth.
The more I have worked with spirits, the less frightening death and the spirit world have become to me. What I encounter most often isn't punishment; it's recognition, healing, and love.
